The CISFC delegation visited India in July 2013, and held an extensive exchange with NSDL Database Management Limited (NSDL) about building, operation mode and other aspects of the insurance database company.
India is one of the important emerging insurance markets worldwide. Over the first decade of this century, Indian insurance market had expedited its opening up and gained rapid growth, realizing an increase of insurance depth from 2.3% in 2000 to 5.2% in 2009. The main reason of establishing Indian insurance database system is to provide a third-party platform saving and managing electronic insurance policies for policy holders in order to accelerate the paperless progress of insurance policies, propel electronic issuance of insurance policies, increase the market efficiency and transparency and reduce the transaction cost. Five insurance database companies had completed the preparatory work in July 2013. The regulator issued business licenses to these companies on August 13, indicating formal launch and operation of the insurance database system. NDML is the largest among these first five insurance database companies that have been approved.
Through the survey, CISFC has understood India’s insurance database system as well as operation and management of database companies in greater depth, collected rich first-hand data and completed the survey report. CISFC suggests studying, designing and actively building a policy registration center commensurate with actual conditions and market status of China by borrowing the experience of insurance database system of India, so as to effectively promote the transformation of the Chinese insurance industry.
